Birthday sketch I did for my girlfriends eldest son, Justin. I'm sure glad he digs BPRD and not Spiderman or some other thing. Johann is by far his favorite character. So I took a shot at drawing him. He got some cash too. I didn't just shaft him with a crappy drawing
Love this style!
Fabulous! Love your linework.
Nice! I like where you used the dry brush lines and white ink splatter to emphasize a new texture.
Yeah, I've been attempting to work more textures into my work. Most of the time it doesn't really work though - but, it's nice when it does. Thanks again!
GAH, I love this one! Great job, dude.
I fucking love it when people are influenced by Mignola and actually manage to pull it off. Still trying it personally
Thanks, Mark! This piece was hugely influenced by James Harren as well as Mignola. Harren's textures and brush work and Mignola's atmosphere and design. I should include the great Guy Davis in there also for 'Timon" the frog monster and Johann's new look too. All three of them are GREATLY inspirational to me.
The dynamic effects worked very well, and the characters expression also!
Thanks, Jorge! I'm really trying to get more textures into my inks. Sometimes they work, sometimes their a mess. Glad this one translated well enough.
Your brush strokes are delicious. :0
The trick is taking a wet brush and mixing it is one area until you have a little well that is more fluid than the area surrounding it. It will flow off your brush better and it should have no issue going over blacks. Sometimes you need more than one coat. Also, using gouache works too as a nice compliment to using Prowhite. Try messing with some liquid frisket, that stuff is amazing! Picture looks awesome by the way.
Cool! I've use gouache and acrylic before. I'll have to try out the frisket though. Thanks, man!
Awesome as usual!
Great job! I love that white marks coming out of his finger, was it white paint? or white out or something?
